Daily Drawing – Darling Pose

January 8, 2015

Daily05Another day, another drawing.

This is a digital sketch of my granddaughter, Selah. She absolutely loves to dress up. One day, not long ago, she came to visit and I had this little straw hat for her to wear. She loved it so much I just had to let her take it home. I snapped a photo of her near the front door as she was leaving. Yes, she is a sweet as she looks!

Here is a detail view.

Daily Drawing – Monkey Bars

January 7, 2015

Daily04This is another installment of my daily drawings.

I admit that my grandchildren are a huge inspiration for me. This is my granddaughter, Lilly (the star of my book, Lilly Vanilly’s Tea Party). She lives a long distance from me so when I visit with her and her brother I take a ton of photos. The last time we saw them we took them to the zoo and to a park. I enjoyed the strong lines of her bravely stepping off the platform and grabbing onto the fireman’s pole. Her face was not as important in this drawing, but it still became the focal point.

Lilly Vanilly’s Tea Party is a picture book for little girls and is available on Amazon or from my store at https://www.createspace.com/3894417. Thanks for visiting!

Fetch!

April 13, 2013

FetchOver my morning coffee I felt the urge to put pen to paper, and this is the result. Very simple, but this drawing reflects the joy between a little girl and her best friend.

When I was about four years old our family acquired a mixed breed dog we named Amigo (friend in Spanish). He was my constant companion, and very smart. My older sisters took him to obedience school, and we all loved him as a part of our family. He loved to play “fetch” and I was always happy to play along.

Hope you enjoy this one.

Enjoying the Ocean

April 11, 2013

GirlJumpingInWaterOne of my neighbors had purchased two of my miniature paintings of little girls playing on the beach a while ago. I saw them last night and they asked if I would create one more for their third daughter. So, here it is. The painting measures about 4 x 5 inches and it is framed with a small, gold metallic frame.

I sure hope they like it. I really had fun creating it.

Sketch of Lilly Being Shy

August 8, 2012

This is a little sketch I did today of my granddaughter, Lilly. The reference photo was from a year or so ago. She is so photogenic and always ready to pose for the camera that I have a nice collection of pictures of her to draw from.

I have been enjoying the simplicity of my sketchbook lately and the freedom that graphite brings. I can mold the lights and shadows almost like developing a sculpture. I enjoy using different value pencils, the softest being the darkest.

I stopped on this sketch before it became too much of a completed drawing. I just wanted to study the simple lights and shadows that bounced around her face, body, and clothing.

Hope you enjoy it!

Portrait of Eli, Our Grandson

April 27, 2012

Another page from my sketchbook. This one is a little pen and ink and watercolor of our grandson, Eli. I snapped the reference photo for this when they were visiting us a few months ago. He was captured peeking out from the side of the rocking chair, engrossed in a cartoon on television.

With such adorable references, how could I not have a successful painting!?! Since this photo was taken he acquired a “big boy” haircut and thus, there are no more curls. I am so glad I was able to capture them!

Hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed painting it!

Illustration of Lilly on a Tree Swing

April 20, 2012

I have been creating little sketches of my granddaughter, Lilly, for some ideas I have for a little book that I would like to put together for her. I was just playing with some action scenes and came up with this little painting.

The little stuffed dog is her Puppygirl. Lilly carries it everywhere, so I’m trying to fit it into each illustration that I do of her. Puppygirl was a gift from my son to his daughter when she was first born. Lilly is pretty attached to it, and it is really fun and simple to draw and paint, so I love finding ways to include it.

Hope you enjoy this one. Let me know what you think. I love hearing from you!

Colored Illustration – Study of Lilly

April 6, 2012

I have been continuing to play with illustrations. I liked the line drawing of Lilly’s character opening a present (see previous post –Playing in Sketchbook). I decided to play with some color to see what it would look like. This piece is done on 300 lb. cold press watercolor paper, with a touch of ink to some of the edges. Let me know what you think!
